The Genandt Funeral Home has a long and proud history. The hallmarks of service at Genandt Funeral Home are personalization and true compassion. Because we operate within small communities and are dedicated to those communities, we often have in-place relationships with families. We have built a reputation for accuracy, efficiency and kindness.

Leland Genandt spent his life as a farmer until, in 1970, he chose to pursue his dream of being a being a funeral director. He graduated from mortuary school in that year. Because Lee was as ambitious as he was concerned, he opened his first funeral home four years following his graduation. Kathryn, his wife and a school teacher, assisted him in all areas and the Genandt Funeral Home was born. Then, it primarily served the Winnebago community.

Of course, Lee wasn't willing to stop there. In 1977, he remodeled the farm implement repair building in German Valley. With this addition, he was able to better serve that community.

Over the years, the dual locations of Genandt Funeral Home have served both communities well. People from German Valley can have their services at the smaller facility. However, families usually join us in our wonderful Winnebago location.

After being a banker for 20 years, Devonne Getzelman, Lee's daughter, took up the family torch and graduated from mortuary school in 2001. Her graduation couldn't have been more timely. Leland, the founder and namesake had died October 2000 while she was in school.

Today, Genandt Funeral Home is owned by Kathryn Genandt. As always, she is an integral member of its staff. Devonne, however, is the manager of the home and the resident licensed funeral director. While maintaining an auxiliary staff of six to assist with services and celebrations, Devonne is the real heart of Genandt Funeral Home. She meets with each family individually, seeing to it that all needs are met.
