Winnebago – Russell “Russ” D. Case, 74, of Winnebago, passed away Thursday, August 9, 2012, in Rockford Memorial Hospital. Born November 17, 1937, in Rockford, the son of Herbert and Della (Scofield) Case. Graduated from West High School in 1955. Russ married Dorothy K. Stotler on February 22, 1958, in Rockford. He worked for Sealtest Ice Cream, Bordens, Dean Foods, Texaco, and was a machinist for 23 years at EZ Machine. Although Russ was “semi-retired”, he periodically delivered flowers for Garden Arts, Winnebago, drove the Winnebago Senior Citizens bus and was employed by the Winnebago Community School District #323 Transportation Dept. as a bus driver. His greatest joy, in addition to his family, was driving the big yellow bus. Russ was an avid Bears, Cubs and Winnebago Indians fan. He was a past member of the Winnebago Indians Football “chain gang”. Russ also served on the Winnebago Village Board for 10 years and volunteered at the Rockford Area Rescue Mission, helping those who were less fortunate.
Russell is lovingly survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughters, Karen (Brian) Johnson and Denise Case, all of Winnebago; granddaughters, Brianna (Anthony Lamarca) Johnson of Cedarburg, Wis. and Kelli Johnson of Winnebago; numerous sister and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his parents; brothers, Harold, Gilbert, Herbert Jr. and Richard; and sister, Jean Beilke.
The family would like to thank the staff at Rockford Memorial Hospital for their compassion and care.
Service at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 18, 2012, in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago, with visitation from 1:00 p.m. until service time; the Rev. Steve Shullanberger, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Winnebago, officiating. Cremation rites accorded.
