Obituary for Ada Irene Ackerman
Freeport - Ada Irene Ackerman, 98, of Freeport, died Tuesday evening, July 31, 2007, in Parkview Home, in Freeport. A daughter of Jelderk and Albertie (DeVries) Poppen, she was born February 17, 1909 in rural German Valley. Ada married Edward Eldelbert Ackerman on December 30, 1931 at the family home. She and her husband farmed many years. After graduating from Pleasant Prairie Academy in German Valley in 1925, she attended Northern Illinois University at DeKalb. Ada was a teacher in the country schools of Stephenson County. She was a member of German Valley Christian Reformed Church and the Ladies Aid Society. She also taught Sunday school there for many years.
Surviving family members include two sons, Roger (Mildred) Ackerman of Pecatonica and Darrell (Joyce) Ackerman of Wyoming, Mich.; son-in-law, Robert (Susan) DeVries, of Jenison, Mich.; eleven grandchildren, Laurie Ackerman, Bradley Ackerman, Stephanie (Matthew) Snider, Dawn (Guy) Groenewold, Brent (Tamara) Ackerman, Tamara Ackerman, Darin Ackerman, Chad Ackerman, Brian (Marcia) DeVries, Christine (Todd) Hultink, Carrie (Michael) Geisert; ten great-grandchildren, Caleb, Josiah and Anna Snider, Hannah and Sophie Hultink, Naeva and Christian Groenewold, Elliott, Hayden and Oliver Geisert; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Poppen, Alice Ackerman and Virginia Ackerman; and many nieces and nephews.
Ada was predeceased by her parents; husband, Edward, in June of 1993; daughter, Charlene, in October of 1993; four brothers and three sisters.

Service is at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 3, 2007, in German Valley Christian Reformed Church, 4861 S. Holland Church Rd., German Valley, with the Rev. Jake Ritzema officiating. Burial in Christian Reformed Cemetery, German Valley. Visitation 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 2, 2007, in Genandt Funeral Home, 145 Church St., German Valley.
