
Obituary for Albert "Pete" Allen
Pecatonica - Albert "Pete" Allen, 68, of Pecatonica, died Thursday morning, August 27, 2009, in his home, after a year fight with a brain tumor. Born August 31, 1940, in Rockford, the son of Elmer and Mildred "Millie" Allen and stepfather, Carol Slaback. Received an honorable discharge from the Navy, at the age of 18, due to a medical condition. He grew up in the Rockford area, working in construction as a plasterer with several local businesses, later having his own business, "Pete Allen Plastering". Pete married Karen S. VanDuyn on February 11, 1961, in Rockford. Having a love for horses, he raised some of his own, with a special love for Holly, and his dog, Kelley. Pete loved to throw a pole in the water, especially at Spider Lake, Hayward, Wis., was a true Vikings fan and enjoyed stock-car racing, always making time to go or watch NASCAR. He also loved to play a good hand of cards with good old friends. Pete had a neighborhood bar, "PALS", where friends could hang out. He always had a big heart to anyone whom may have had a need.
Pete was loved and will be missed by many, including his four sons, Daniel (Janice) and their children, Ben, 16, and Brandon, 14; Ronald (MeShell) Allen and their children, Jessica, 23 (Jason Hughes), Ryan, 21, and Luke, 11; Peter (Kellie) and their children, Colton, 15, Lexie, 13, Madison, 10, and Mackenzie, 10; and James, and his children, Hannah, 9, and Collin, 7; siblings, Bob (Sharon), Ray (Margaret), Sandra (Bill) and Bertha (Dave); numerous nieces and nephews; dear companion, Lisa Shimer and her children, Dana, Nikki and Erika and grandchildren, Kayleigh and Chase. He was predeceased by his wife, Karen Allen on September 11, 1993; parents; and sister, Pat.

Service is at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 31, 2009, in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago, with visitation at 10:00 a.m., until service time; the Rev. Bernice M. Fertitta will officiate. Visitation 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, August 30, 2009, in the funeral home. At Albert's request, cremation rites will be accorded. Burial of ashes at 3:00 p.m., Friday, September 4, 2009, in Willwood Burial Park, Rockford, with an open house immediately following at "PALS", 5107 Auburn Street, Rockford, for all whom would like to celebrate Pete's life; bring a dish to pass and good memories of Dad!
