Grandma Bago
Winnebago - Arleene E. (Klingberg Slocum) Meyers, 91, of Winnebago, died Monday, August 11, 2014, in Rockford Memorial Hospital, from heart failure. Born October 28, 1922, in Newark Township, Rock County, Wis., the daughter of William and Gertrude (Beckman) Klingberg. Arleene married Kenneth D. Slocum in December, 1945; they lived in Beloit and Monroe, Wis., and moved to Winnebago in 1957. Arleene married Arnold Meyers Sr. in December, 1971; they resided in Winnebago. She was an active contributor to numerous community organizations; her church and choir at First Presbyterian Church, the local library and 4-H to name a few. Arleene was a friend to many, a competitive athlete in bowling, softball and golf, and she loved music. Her life was committed to her faith, sharing love, and the joy of children and family. Affectionately known to her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren as "Grandma Bago", she built a large, loving family that will sorely miss her warm and embracing presence.
Arleene is lovingly survived by her children, Kay (Charles Lussenhop), Richard (Cindy), Philip (Diane), Susan and Mary; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Paris; 16 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husbands; son, Kenneth A. Slocum; and companion, Donald Flynn.
Funeral Information
Service is at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 16, 2014, in First Presbyterian Church, 208 W. Winnebago St., Winnebago, with the Rev. Steve Shullanberger and the Rev. Diane Slocum, of Elmhurst Presbyterian Church, co-officiating. Burial will follow immediately in Newark Cemetery, rural Beloit, Wis. Relatives and friends are also welcome at the reception from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the church. Visitation 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, August 15, 2014, in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago.
