Obituary for Arlene Florence Calhoun
Arlene Florence Calhoun, 71, of Rockford, died Friday, April 23, 2021, at her home. She was born September 3, 1949 in Ruthven, IA, the daughter of Thomas L. and Rosina Belle (Perry) Hanna. She graduated from Lamar High School in Lamar, MO in 1967. Arlene married James “Mick” Michael Calhoun on November 18, 1972 in Rockford.
Arlene worked at Barber Colman in Rockford and then she started Heel/Sew Quik in Rockford and Machesney Park. She taught Sunday school at Central Christian Church in Rockford and enjoyed doing special things for her students. Arlene most enjoyed being with her grandchildren Olivia, Melody and Braxon.
Arlene is survived by her husband of 48 years, Mick Calhoun of Rockford; sons, Jeremy (Amanda) Calhoun and their son Braxon of Milwaukee, WI, Joey (Becky) Calhoun and their daughters Olivia and Melody of Dallas, TX; brother, Roy Hanna; sisters, Pat Pennell, Iola (John) French, Teri Hanna, Chris Hanna; brother-in-law, Jim Swigart; sisters-in-law, Shirley Burkhart, Karen Koch; several nephews and nieces.
Arlene is predeceased by her parents.
A memorial visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established. Cremation rites accorded. For an online obituary and tributes go to www.genandtfuneralhome.com.
