
Obituary for Artyst "Artie" Joyce (Boomgarden) Alberts
Artyst “Artie” Joyce (Boomgarden) Alberts, 83, of Winnebago, went home to be with the Lord and grandma, surrounded by her family, on July 9, 2021, at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. She was born January 22, 1938 in Rockford, the daughter of Wyllys James and Anna Maria (Christianson) Gross. She attended Winnebago High School. Artie married Darrell Weslie Boomgarden on May 29, 1954 and they later divorced. She then married Lee Alberts.
Artie worked thirty five years in purchasing at Barber Coleman in Rockford retiring in 1998. While working at Barber Coleman she also was a cook at the Golden Key Café at Winnebago corners. After retirement she co-owned the Country Café in Winnebago with Deb White and later was hostess with owner Michelle at Toni’s of Winnebago for twenty three years. She was a member of the Winnebago United Methodist Church, Blackhawk Athletic Club and White Eagle Club both in Rockford and ran the concession stand at the Winnebago Men’s Baseball Diamond for many years. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and die hard Green Bay Packer fan.
Artie is survived by her children, Guy (Kelly) Boomgarden of McFarland, WI, Sheila (Brian) Spielman of Winnebago, Bradley (Pam) Boomgarden of Winnebago; grandchildren, Nicholas (Brittany) Boomgarden, Alex Boomgarden, Bre′Anna (Matt) Hughes, Benjamin Spielman, Brennan (Ashley) Spielman, Branigan (Gunnard) Theden, Bradley Boomgarden Jr., Zachary Boomgarden, Isiah (Rachel) Boomgarden; great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Brayden and Connor Hughes, Keira, Emma and Declan Spielman, Briar and Britton Theden, Harper Boomgarden; sisters, Alta Straley of Winnebago, Anna (Gene) Gambrel of Winnebago, brother-in-law, Eugene Langholf of Pecatonica; several nephews and nieces.
Artie is predeceased by her parents, Wyllys and Anna Gross; sister, Arlene Langholf; brother-in-law, Dale Straley.
Artie’s celebration of life will be 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, September 26, 2021 at The Brauer Barn, 9151 Edwardsville Rd., Winnebago. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established.
