
Obituary for Boyd R. Erxleben
Leaf River - Boyd R. Erxleben, 88, of Leaf River, died Sunday morning, February 17, 2008, in Neighbors Nursing Home, Byron, after a lengthy illness. Born May 5, 1919, in Egan, the son of George and Anna (Reber) Erxleben. He graduated from Leaf River High School in 1936. Boyd married Fannie Gruis on May 29, 1941, in Christian Reformed Church, German Valley. Together, they farmed in rural Leaf River. He was an active member of Middle Creek Presbyterian Church, a charter member of Mariners, and served as the church treasurer, elder, Sunday school superintendent, and was involved in the Bethel bible study. He also was a 50-year member of the Ogle County Farm Bureau. Boyd enjoyed restoring Oliver tractors.
Boyd is lovingly survived by his wife, Fannie Erxleben of Leaf River; daughter, Bonnie Toomsen and son, Gordon (Carol) Erxleben, both of Rockford; grandchildren, Dawn (Douglas) Rand of Belvidere, Tammy (Dwayne) Uphouse of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Warren (Vicki) Erxleben of New Liberty, Iowa, Beth (Tom) Parker of Wheaton and Becky (Scott) Pelhank of Chicago; nine great-grandchildren and two nephews.
Boyd is predeceased by his parents; son-in-law, Donald Toomsen; sister, Erda May Farrell; and several nieces and nephews.

Service is at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 21, 2008, in Middle Creek Presbyterian Church, 12473 Montague Road, Winnebago with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until service time; the Rev. Anita Stuart-Steva will officiate. Burial in Middle Creek Cemetery, in Winnebago.
