
Obituary for Carol Elaine Schmoock
Winnebago – Carol Elaine Schmoock, 93, of Winnebago, died Friday, February 16, 2018 at Amberwood Care Centre in Rockford. Born November 22, 1924 in Rockford the daughter of Will Carleton and Helen Marie (Brain) Sarver. In 1942 she graduated from West High School in Rockford. Carol married Robert “Bob” Frederick Schmoock on September 21, 1944 at Court Street Methodist Church in Rockford and together they farmed in rural Winnebago. She first worked 3 years at Illinois National Bank in Rockford and then 25 years as cashier at Kasch’s Grocery Store in Winnebago. She and Bob also worked at the Coronado Theatre in Rockford for many years when Bob was the theater’s managing director. Carol was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Winnebago having served 35 years as a Sunday school teacher, 40 years singing in the church choir and was chairperson of the Naomi Circle. She also was a member of the Winnebago County Farm Bureau, Winnebago Women’s Club, Antique Car Club, board member of the Land of Lincoln Organ Theatre Society and board member of Restoration Education of Rockford. Carol volunteered 27 years at Rockford Memorial Hospital and 5 years at the BMO Harris Bank Center.

Carol is survived by her sister, Barbara Oltmanns of Rockford; nephews, Larry (Glenn) Oltmanns, Bradley (Susan) Oltmanns; nieces, Lynne (Gary) Bjorgo, Kristine (Don) Rummel; several great and great-great nephews and nieces.
Carol is predeceased by her parents; husband, Bob Schmoock; brother-in-law, Reuben Oltmanns.
Memorial service 12:00 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2018, with a memorial visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. at Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago with Pastor Will Geiseman of Memorial Baptist Church in Rockford officiating. Cremation rites accorded with private interment at Winnebago Cemetery near Winnebago. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established for the First Presbyterian Church in Winnebago or Prairie View Assisted Living in Winnebago.
