Obituary for Caroline Ann Reed
Rockford – Caroline Ann Reed, 82, formerly of Winnebago, died Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at home with her children. Born September 28, 1935, in Rockford, the daughter of Leslie Hamilton and Mildred (Purdy) Geddes. Graduated from West High School in 1953, Northwestern University in 1957 and obtained her master’s degree from Memphis State in 1970. Caroline married Lowell “Pete” D. Reed on June 18, 1975. She taught fourth grade, two years in Memphis and then 18 years for the Winnebago School District No. 323. After retirement, Caroline truly enjoyed volunteer work, especially at NIRIS, Midway Village and serving as a driver for the American Cancer Society. She also was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Pecatonica, the Winnebago County Home Extension and Winnebago Senior Women’s Club. Caroline enjoyed reading and loved her travels across the world, having been to all seven continents.

Caroline is survived by her children, Paul (Tammy) Knowles of Brookfield, WI, Amy Knowles and Vickie Dycewicz of Middletown, CT; grandchildren, Michael (Dana) Knowles, Laura Knowles, Anna (Dan Banghart) Knowles; stepchildren, Terry (Kim) Reed, Edward (Marcia) Reed, Linda Vallee, Sherrie (Ed) Snow; several step-grandchildren; brothers, Allan Geddes, Gordon (Nada) Geddes; several nephews and nieces.

Caroline is predeceased by her parents; husband, Pete Reed.

Memorial Service 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2018, with a Memorial Visitation starting at 10:00 a.m., at St. John Lutheran Church, 1301 N. Jackson St., Pecatonica, with Rev. Terry L. Theiss officiating. Cremation rites accorded with private interment at Winnebago Cemetery near Winnebago. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established for St. John Lutheran Church in Pecatonica.
