
Obituary for Charles S. Halley
Winnebago - Charles "Charlie" S. Halley, 88, died Sunday, December 30, 2012, in Medina Manor, Durand, after a lengthy illness. Born June 4, 1924, in Rockford, the son of Ross and Ada (Stevens) Halley. Graduated from West High School in 1942. He served in the Marine Corps for three years during WWII. Charles married Jacquelin Frey on September 20, 1947, in Grace Methodist Church, Rockford. Together, with his father and brother, Charles was a builder for Halley Construction. Later, he was employed in the engineering department at Rockford Memorial Hospital for 11 years. Charles was a charter member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, a past master of Masonic Lodge No. 166 and Freeport Consistory member. He enjoyed golfing and raising his vegetable gardens.
Charles is lovingly survived by his daughter, Deborah Halley of Alexandria, Va. He was predeceased by his parents; and wife, Jacquelin, on March 17, 2010.
Funeral Information
Graveside service will be held at a later date in the spring at Owen Center Cemetery, Rockford. At Charles' request, cremation rites were accorded.
