Obituary for Charlotte M. Hamer
Byron - Charlotte M. (Null) Hamer, 79, of Byron, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2008, in Neighbors Nursing Home, Byron. Born March 22, 1929, in Byron, the daughter of Ira Bruce and Hazel Grace Null. She attended school in Byron until her family moved to Winnebago, where she graduated from Winnebago High School in 1947. Charlotte married Allen Lee Hamer on February 14, 1948 in First Presbyterian Church, Winnebago. Allen and Charlotte dairy farmed for a number of years on farms in Burritt Township and rural Rockford. In 1964, they moved to the Hamer family farm on Trask Bridge Road, in Burritt Township. In 1972, they left farming and moved to Byron. After leaving farming, she and her husband enjoyed traveling with family and friends, taking Caribbean cruises, touring the South, and visiting family in the states of Minnesota, Washington and Rhode Island. Charlotte actively supported her children in 4-H, sporting events, and other activities through the years. She especially enjoyed her granddaughter and great-grandsons.

Survivors include Allen, her husband of 60 years; children Thomas Hamer of Byron, Denise (Terry Vogt) Reiniche of Oregon and Dianne (Ernest) Buchanan of Wauconda; granddaughter, Cristine (Andrew) Goodfellow of Mundelein; great-grandsons, Isaac and Aaron Goodfellow; sister and brother-in-law, Darlene and Donald Gilbert of Winnebago; along with many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, sister and brother-in-law, Vitera and Jacob Wilken and brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Shirley Null.

Funeral Information

Service is at 2:30 p.m., Monday, June 9, 2008, in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago, with visitation 1:00 p.m. to service time; the Rev. Dr. Larry A. Moody, pastor of Burritt Community Church, in Rockford, will officiate. Burial in North Burritt Cemetery, in Winnebago.
