Obituary for Dale F. Straley
Winnebago - Dale F. Straley, 91, of Winnebago, died Monday, March 2, 2015, in his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born June 6, 1923, in Paw Paw, the son of Allen and Mattie (Stauffer) Straley. Graduated from Byron High School in 1941. Enlisted and served in the U.S. Army from March 2, 1943 to March 2, 1946, during WWII. Dale married Alta W. Gross on January 28, 1950, in Winnebago. Together, they farmed around Winnebago, Boone and Ogle counties. He was a former member of the Winnebago Farm Bureau, Top Farmer Organization, Winnebago-Boone County School Board, Winnebago County Zoning Board of Appeals, Winnebago Board of Education, Winnebago Fans Club, Winnebago Lions Club, in which he served as president from 1973-1974, and First Presbyterian Church. In addition, Dale was one of the founding fathers for the Winnebago Library. He enjoyed summer weekends at the family cottage on Lake Waubesa for 35 years and dancing with Alta at the Fireman and Grange dances.

Dale is lovingly survived by his wife of 65 years, Alta Straley; children, Steve Straley of Winnebago and Gail (Tim) Possley of Erie; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; brother, Earl Straley of Oregon; sister, Joyce Seyler of Winnebago; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Vernon Straley and sisters, Wilda Johnson and Lois Myers.

Funeral Information

Celebration of life is at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 5, 2015, in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until service time; Pastor Gary Turner of New Life Bible Church, Winnebago, will officiate. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial at later date in Winnebago Cemetery.
