
Obituary for Dale L. Haselton
Loving Husband and Father
Rockford - Dale L. Haselton, 84, of Rockford, died Saturday afternoon, March 7, 2009, in his home, after a short illness. Born February 1, 1925, in Rockford, the son of Roy and Lena (Clayton) Haselton. He graduated from Leaf River High School in 1944 and served in the U.S. Navy from March 27, 1944 to May 4, 1946, in the Asiatic Pacific area as a Quartermaster 2nd class, during WWII. Dale married Margaret Mercurio on September 8, 1945, in Normandy Chapel, Long Beach, Calif. He was a hydraulics engineer at Amerock Corporation for 32 years and operated a horse farm on Centerville Road, showing his registered paint horses regionally throughout the United States. In addition Dale taught hydraulics engineering at Rock Valley College for several years. A very strong man of faith in God, he was an active member of Evergreen Covenant Church, teaching Sunday school for 30 years, the AWANA director, and was head of the youth camp, Circle C Ranch, and later transferred to Winnebago United Methodist Church. Dale was also a member of the Pegasus Pinto Horse Association. He kept in contact with his Navy comrades of the LST-122 Aquatic Forces, and was an avid outdoorsman, caring for his horses and tending his gardens. Dale's family would like to thank the nurses of VNA Hospice, especially Bridget and Shawn for their care and support.
Dale is lovingly survived by his wife, Margaret Haselton of Rockford; children, Roy (Vicky) Haselton of Chandler, Ariz., Cathy (Gary) Tallacksen of Lake Helen, Fla.; Robert Haselton of Rockford and Carol (Steve) Langley of Beloit, Wis.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Gene (Thelma) Haselton of Henderson, Nev., Richard (Tiny) Haselton of Rockford, and Bill (Mary Lou) Haselton of Poway, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Betty (Donald) Reints.
Funeral Information
Service is at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 13, 2009, in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago, with visitation from 12:00 p.m., until service time; the Rev. Rick Neblock, pastor of Winnebago United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial in Willwood Burial Park, in Rockford.
