Beloved Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma
Winnebago - Darlene M. Gilbert, 91, of Winnebago, died Friday, May 31, 2013, in Provena St. Anne Nursing Center, Rockford. Born August 2, 1921, in Byron, the daughter of Bruce and Hazel (Sweeney) Null. Graduated from Byron High School in 1939 and Rockford School of Commerce in 1941. Darlene married H. Donald Gilbert on May 25, 1947, in Winnebago; they were together for 64 years in marriage, until his death on September 18, 2011. She clerked at Nihan and Martin, Winnebago, for many years. Darlene was an active member of First Presbyterian Church and its Dorcas Circle, and was a former deacon. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles, paper quilling, and crocheting, along with golfing and baking goodies for her family and bake sales.
Darlene is lovingly survived by her children, David Gilbert of Rockford, Dennis (Lynn) Gilbert of Mesa, Ariz., Darla Taylor of Winnebago and Don Gilbert of Defiance, Ohio; grandchildren, Jennifer (E.J.) Laster, Christopher Gilbert, Victor (Maria) Villarmea, Teresa (Jason) Ackerman, Tara Taylor and Kimberly Gilbert; great-grandchildren, Ryan Ackerman and Jesselin Laster; and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her parents; son-in-law, Chris Taylor; grandson, Troy Taylor; brother, Kenneth Null; and sisters, Vitera Wilken and Charlotte Hamer.

Service is at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 10, 2013, in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago, with the Rev. Steve Shullanberger officiating. Burial in Winnebago Cemetery. Visitation 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, June 9, 2013, in the funeral home.
