
Obituary for Devonne Kaye Getzelman
Byron Devonne Kaye Getzelman, 59, of Byron passed away October 21, 2016 in the Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon with her loving husband Greg by her side. Born August 28, 1957 in Rockford the daughter of Leland L. and Kathryn Y. Tinklenberg Genandt. Graduated from Winnebago High School in 1975, earned a Bachelor of Science in Business from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston in 1979 and a degree in Mortuary Science from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Wheeling in 2001. Devonne married Gregory A. Getzelman on November 6, 1982 in Forreston. She worked in banking over 20 years and then began managing the Genandt Funeral Home in Winnebago in 2003. Devonne enjoyed spending time with her husband, two daughters, two grandchildren and friends. While she always watched and followed Chicago sports with Greg her true passions in life were reading, gardening and antiquing.
A special thank you to Dr. Merat Esfahani, the staff of Swedish American Regional Cancer Center and the staff at Serenity Hospice and Home for their care as Devonne battled Ovarian Cancer.
Devonne is lovingly survived by her husband, Greg Getzelman of Byron; daughters, Jeanine (Jonathan) Kaplan of Rockford, Lauren Getzelman of Sussex, WI; grandchildren, Payton Kaye Kaplan and Grayson Jon Kaplan both of Rockford; mother Kathryn Genandt of Mt. Morris, brother Lyndon (Cindy) Genandt of Durand; sister, Karyn (Randy) Heidenreich of Albuquerque, NM; brother-in-laws, Ed (Barbara Yates) Getzelman of Lawrenceville, GA, Jim (Christie) Getzelman of Byron; nephews, Matthew Getzelman, Nathan Getzelman, Taylor (Esther) Heidenreich; nieces, Mallorie Getzelman and Bryn Heidenreich.
Predeceased by her father, Leland Genandt; mother-in-law Barbara Getzelman.

Funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 27, 2016, in New Life Bible Church 2285 N. Hoisington Rd., Winnebago with Pastor Tim Spickler officiating. Visitation 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2016 in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago. Burial in North Burritt Cemetery near Winnebago.
