
Obituary for Dolores Irene Stykel
Freeport - Dolores Irene Stykel, 86, of Freeport, formerly of German Valley died Monday, January 5, 2015, in FHN Memorial Hospital, following a sudden illness. Born in Woosung Twp., on August 8, 1928, the daughter of John G. and Ethel (Gilbert) Dohlen, of Mount Morris. Dolores graduated from Carthage College, attended Hartford Seminary, Conn., and Lutheran School of Theology, Maywood. Dolores was commissioned as a missionary by the Lutheran Church in America and served in India for 10 years. She taught 2nd grade in German Valley for 20 years. Dolores married Melvin A. Stykel on June 7, 1975. Dolores was a member of Silver Creek Reformed Church, German Valley, having served as a Sunday school teacher, elder and Reformed Church Women. She served as Volunteer Supervisor for the German Valley area of Northwest Ill. Hospice, volunteered at Freeport Memorial Hospital, was a German Valley School mentor, and an Immanuel Lutheran School volunteer.
Dolores is lovingly survived by her son, Bruce (Sandra) Stykel of Middleton, Wis.; grandson, Stephen of Mendota; granddaughter, Renee of Middleton; daughter-in-law, Robin Stykel of German Valley; brother, Gilbert (Doris) Dohlen of Rockford; sister, Elaine Blume of Freeport; and sister-in-law, Arlene Dohlen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Melvin; sons, Loren and Andy; and brother, Norman.

Service is at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 10, 2015, in Silver Creek Reformed Church, 325 S. Bunker Hill Road, German Valley, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until service time; the Rev. Allen Schut and the Rev. Mark Luepke, pastor of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Freeport will co-officiate. Cremation rites were accorded.
