Obituary for Doris J. Strakeljahn
Winnebago - Doris J. Strakeljahn, 84, of Winnebago, died Wednesday, March 26, 2014, in Provena St. Anne Center, Rockford, after a short illness. Born February 24, 1930, in Rockford, the daughter of Clarence and Ethel (Kolthoff) Boyer. Graduated from Pecatonica High School in 1948. Doris married Henry F. Strakeljahn on February 26, 1949, in Rockford. She managed the Village Emporium in Winnebago and then worked in the accounting department at WREX-TV for 24 years, from July 1966 through July, 1990. Doris was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Winnebago, and the Monday Nighters. She dearly loved spending time with her family and enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting and reading.
Doris is lovingly survived by her children, Diane (Brian) Welte of Columbia, S. C., Deb (Bob) White of Winnebago and Gary (Kim) Strakeljahn of Rockford; 13 grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; brothers, Russ Boyer of Florida and Ron (Sue) Boyer of Arizona; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Hank, on February 17, 2010; grandson, Andy White; and sisters, Marge Bouton and Nancy Aurand.
Funeral Information
Service is at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 31, 2014, in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago, with visitation from 1:00 p.m. until service time; the Rev. Steve Shullanberger, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Winnebago, will officiate. Burial in Winnebago Cemetery.
