Obituary for Dorothy Lucille Bolen
Pecatonica – Dorothy Lucille Bolen, 86, of Pecatonica, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Presence St. Joseph Center in Freeport. Born July 31, 1931 in Freeport the daughter of Herman Edward and Ida Henryetta (Greenfield) Diddens. Dorothy married Donald Telbert Bolen on September 4, 1948 at Silver Creek Reformed Church in German Valley. She worked at J.I. Case in Rockford for 10 years and Dean Foods in Pecatonica for 35 years retiring in 2006. Dorothy was an active member of the Silver Creek Reformed Church where she participated in its senior and bell choirs, and its XYZ group. She also was a 4-H leader for twelve years and was a member of the Pecatonica Lions Club for over 30 years and the Lady Landowners of Winnebago County. She enjoyed selling Avon for over 30 years and loved to play cards with friends.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Michael Bolen of Durand, Beverly Johnson of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, Sherrie (Douglas) Gilbert of Wakefield, MI, Penny (Anthony) West of Avondale, AZ; grandchildren, Sarah (Matt) Binger, Jon (Beth) Bolen, Seth Bolen, Emily Bolen, Janelle (Dabe) Murphy, Christine (Adam) Hady, Jamie (Brian) Wickstrom, Christopher (Mandy) Gilbert, Josh (Katie) West, Justin (Mellisa) West; great-grandchildren Myla and Synthia Binger, Ellie and Judd Bolen, Rigel Murphy, Emma, Ethan, Elsa and Evan Hady, Landon and Tucker Wickstrom.
Dorothy is predeceased by her husband, Don Bolen.
Funeral service 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Silver Creek Reformed Church, 326 S. Bunker Hill Rd., German Valley with Rev. Grant Mulder officiating. Interment at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport. Visitation 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 13, 2018, at Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago.
