Loving Mom, Grandma and Great-grandma
Leaf River - Dorothy M. Leather, 93, of Leaf River, died Monday, December 1, 2008, in her home, after a sudden illness. Born October 30, 1915, in Holcomb, the daughter of Fred E. and Lydia J. (Knott) Swartout. Dorothy married John Andrew Leather on October 5, 1940, in St. Patrick's Church, in Rockford. In her younger years, she worked at National Lock Co. and then J.L. Clark, packing cans, giving her wages to her mother. Dorothy was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She enjoyed sewing, camping, raising canaries, collecting dolls and playing cards with John every night.
Dorothy's passion was being a homemaker and caring for her family who will greatly miss her, including her children, Arnold (Lynn) Leather of Nebr., Bernadette (Dave) Adams of Texas, Donald (Wyone) Leather of Cherry Valley and Lucille "LuAnn" (Tom) Knudson of Winnebago; grandchildren, Shelly (Kris) Kellberg, Mark (Kim) and Brad (Shannon) Leather, Julie (James) Strong, Amy (Eric) Ford, Dawn (Robert) Clark, Holly Leather-Vella, Valerie (Matt Nierhoff) Leather, Tracy (Andy) Lightfoot, and Erika (Daryl) Greenfield; great-grandchildren, Cooper Leather, Colton and Ryleigh Leather, Sarah Kellberg, Daniel and Jacob Ing, Kimo Strong, Michaela and Derek Garza, Candice Clark, Emily, Eric and Jackson Ford, Michael Vella, Jr., Alexis, Lorrayne and Corran Lightfoot and Dylan, Jenna and Darin Greenfield; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, John Leather on March 11, 2005; brothers, Harold (Ethel), Ervie (Dorothy Burd) and Don (Lilyan) Swartout; and sister Ruth (Edward) Person.

Mass of Christian Burial is at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 5, 2008, in St. Mary's Catholic Church, 126 W. 5th Street, Pecatonica, with the Rev. Monsignor Robert Sweeney officiating. Burial in St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery, in Seward. Visitation 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 4, 2008, with the recitation of the Rosary at 4:30 p.m., in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago.
