Obituary for Edna Jane Hassel
Winnebago – Edna Jane Hassel, 95, of Winnebago, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2017 at River Bluff Nursing Home in Rockford. Born March 10, 1922 in Winnebago the daughter of Irvin and Mary (Benson) Glawe. Graduated from Winnebago High School in 1939 and from Rockford Business School in 1940. Edna married Donald “Don” Stanley Hassel on June 12, 1942 in Rockford. Edna was an account receivable clerk for Pierce Chemical in Rockford for many years. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Northwest Site and the Monday Nighters in Winnebago. Edna enjoyed cooking, gardening, fishing, sewing, quilting, playing cards, going to the casino and spending time with family and friends.
Edna’s family would like to thank the staff at Prairie View Assisted Living in Winnebago for their loving care and support.
Edna is lovingly survived by her children, Doris (Wayne) Larkin of Bemidji, MN, Donna (Bill) Jones of Harvard, David (Kim) Hassel of Winnebago; grandchildren, Todd (Judy) Larkin, Tracey (Bruce) Barnum, Tammy Perez, Tiffany (Matt) Wogsland, Stefanie (Matt) Kluck, Staci (Brent) Thompson; great-grandchildren, Jessica (Matt) Grundy, John Barnum, Hayden Thompson, Kendall Thompson, Miles Kluck, Jonathan Wogsland, Joshua Wogsland; great-great-grandchildren, Cooper and Carter Grundy; many special nephews and nieces.
Edna is predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Don Hassel; grandson, Lance Jones; great-granddaughter, Emma Jane Wogsland; great-great-grandchild, Riley Grundy; her brothers and sisters.

Funeral service 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 9, 2017, in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Northwest Site at 4881 Kilburn Ave., Rockford with Pastor Frank Ciprys officiating. Interment at Winnebago Cemetery near Winnebago. Visitation 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago.
