
Obituary for Elysia G. Gaines
Winnebago - Elysia G. Gaines, 43, of Winnebago, died Tuesday, September 13, 2011, in her home, surrounded by her loving family, following a courageous battle with a short illness. Born on June 27, 1968, in Rockford, the daughter of John C. and Barbara (Whippler) Bowman. Graduated from Winnebago High School in 1986. Elysia married Kenneth Gaines on January 14, 1997, in a small chapel in Las Vegas. She worked in the bakery department of Sullivan Foods, Winnebago. Elysia was a member of the Eagles Aerie No. 392, in Rockford. She enjoyed gardening, home decorating, fishing, photography, and country road trips. Elysia dearly loved spending time with her friends and family. She was known for her generous, loving heart and being a wonderful hostess. Her smile and laughter lit up the room.
Elysia is lovingly survived by her husband, Ken Gaines of Winnebago; mother, Barbara Bowman Taylor of New Milford; brother, Charles Bowman of Rockport, Texas; sisters, Alanna Bowman of Cherry Valley and Lorenda "Rendy" (Jeff) Stalkfleet of Winnebago; niece, Destiney Bowman; nephews, John and Erik Bowman and Austin Martin; great-niece, Jocelyn Bagarinao; mother-in-law, Vivian Gaines of Winnebago; sisters-in-law, Virginia "Ginny" Gaines of Winnebago, Nancy (Charles "Chip") Neumann of Louisville, Kentucky and Patricia "Patty" (Brian) Poulter of Charleston; and extended family. She was predeceased by her father, John Bowman, and father-in-law, Lloyd Gaines.

Service is at 1:00 p.m., Monday, September 19, 2011, in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago, with Pete Lundquist and William Johnson, of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Rockford, co-officiating. Burial in Livingston Cemetery, Caledonia. Visitation 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, September 18, 2011, in the funeral home.
