
Obituary for Evalyn Schaap
Winnebago Evalyn Schaap, 77, of Winnebago died Monday, December 12, 2016, in her home surrounded by her loving family. Born May 12, 1939 in New York, NY, the daughter of Max and Ruth (Vohs) Gottschalk. Graduated from Washington High School in New Jersey in 1957 and attended New York University. Evalyn married Klaus Schaap on June 15, 1958 in Washington, New Jersey. Evalyn was a member of Temple Beth-EL, Rockford Literacy Council, YMCA Woman Aware Program, Winnebago Jr. Womans Club, a member and docent of Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center, life member of Hadassah, founding member of the Winnebago Public Library, and a volunteer for the Win-Bur-Sew Fire Department.
Evalyn is lovingly survived by her mother, Ruth Stern of Winnebago; children, David (Molly) Schaap of Winnebago, Karen (Randy) Gillett of Oak Park, Susan Schaap of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren, Rachel and Michael Gillett of Oak Park, Andria Schaap of Winnebago.
Evalyn is predeceased by her father along with her loving husband, Klaus Schaap.

Service 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2016, in Temple Beth-EL, 1203 Comanche Dr., Rockford with Rabbi Binah B. Wing officiating. Interment in the Rockford Hebrew Cemetery. Arrangements by Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago.
