Grandma West
Winnebago - Florence Jane West, of Winnebago, having just recently celebrated her 95th birthday with her family and friends, went to be with Jesus, her Savior, on Sunday morning, January 8, 2006, in her home, surrounded by her family, after a short illness. Born December 22, 1910, in Hannibal, Mo., the daughter of Joseph Pearl and Lona (Tomlinson) Heathman. Florence married Floyd Andrew West on August 19, 1939 in Bethesda Evangelical Covenant Church, in Rockford. Together they farmed in Burritt Township. Florence volunteered for the Red Cross as a nurse's aid. She was a switchboard operator for Bell Telephone, and then a punch press operator at National Lock for 24 years, retiring in 1972. Florence was a member of Loves Park Evangelical Free Church and loved to read her Bible and sing in church choirs. She enjoyed being a Grange bowler and then bowling at Auburn Bowl. Florence also enjoyed shopping, especially at garage sales, playing cards and dominoes, and working crossword puzzles.
Family-oriented, she loved all the family gatherings with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and is lovingly survived by her children, Doris (Glenn) McDougall Franklin and Darlene (Gordon) Kapotas Walstrom both of Rockford and Delbert (Paulette) West of Winnebago, grandchildren, John (Mary Jo) McDougall of Waukesha, Wis., Brad (Kathy) McDougall of Maryville, Tenn., Jim (Micki) McDougall of Townsend, Tenn., Kathy McDougall Schryver of Rockford, Kanella Kapotas Phillips of Denver, Colo., Paula Kapotas Scribner of Rockford, Nickolas Kapotas of Denver, Colo., Florence Maria (Dan) Green of Roscoe, Brian West and Lance West, both of Winnebago, Brent West of Honolulu, Hi. And Brad West of Gainesville, Fla., great-grandchildren, Jason, Joshua, Jeremiah, Matthew, Katina (Brett), Andie, Hannah, Mike, Benjamin and Noah, great-great-grandchildren, Madeline and Camryn Olivia, niece, Mary Lou Hart of Melbourne, Fla., and special cousins, Jerry (Donna) Tomlinson and Evelyn (Jerry) Doty.
Florence was predeceased by her parents, husband, Floyd Andrew West on May 26, 1980 and son, Donald Eugene Dickerson in 1936.

Service is at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 12, 2006, in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago, with the Rev. Kenneth Crandall, Pastor Emeritus, of Burritt Community Church, in Rockford, officiating. Burial in Willwood Burial Park in Rockford. Visitation 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2006 in the funeral home.
