Obituary for Floyd Charles Dickinson
Burritt Township - Floyd Charles Dickinson, 87, passed away February 27, 2008, at his home in Burritt Township after a long illness. Born in Burritt on September 28, 1920, the son of Ivan Dickinson and Bessie (Lightfoot) Dickinson Woodman, he attended Burritt Consolidated School and graduated from Winnebago High School in 1938. He married Harriet Carlson on October 18, 1941, on the Walter Carlson farm in Winnebago. A lifelong farmer on the land that has been in the Dickinson family since 1854, he was, at the time of his death, the oldest person born in Burritt Township. Floyd was proud of his more than 50 years of public and volunteer service, including director of Burritt Consolidated School, Master of Burritt Grange and chairman of the Trask Bridge Picnic, trustee for Burritt Township, director and president of Winnebago County Farm Bureau, director of Winnebago Service Company, member of the Board of Elders and chairman of the congregation at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Rockford, and treasurer for 20 years of Win-Bur-Sew Fire Protection District. He enjoyed especially his two 1966 Ford Mustangs, which he drove on trips with the Model T Ford Club of Rockford, and his two Caterpillars.

Floyd is survived by a daughter, Judy (Trenton) Ferro, Indiana, PA; two sisters, Faith (Kenneth) Scott, Janesville, WI, and Peggy (Larry) Lawler, Lakewood, CO; four grandchildren, Jonathan Ferro, Hayward, CA, Timothy Ferro, Aurora, IL, Christopher (Anha) Ferro, Joliet, IL, and Nicholas Ferro, Seoul, South Korea; three great-grandchildren, Haley Ferro, Loves Park, IL, Reid Ferro, Aurora, IL, and Antonio Arcos Viniegra, Joliet, IL; very special friend, Ardell Stierman; and family and friends at church and in the community. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, his parents, and his brother, Richard Dickinson.

Funeral Information

The service celebrating Floyd's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 3, 2008, preceded by viewing at 10:00 a.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 600 N. Horsman, Rockford, with Pastor David Thies officiating. Burial will take place at North Burritt Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, March 2, 2008, at Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
