Gary worked as a surveyor at the Stephenson County Highway Department and Rockford Blacktop Construction Co. He then pursued his lifelong passion to own and operate a dairy farm on Kelly Road, west of Seward, IL, for 21 years and then continued on into raising beef cattle and crop farming along with his family. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Pecatonica, Stephenson County Farm Bureau, Midwest Dairymen’s Association, Winnebago County Dairy Herd Improvement Association, the Laborer’s Local 32 in Rockford and was a past board member of the Ridott Township.
Gary had a close connection to his Lord, Jesus Christ, was active in his church, led family in prayers, and passed those values along to his family. Gary formed many lasting friendships during his military service and in his farming community. He was always ready to lend a hand when needed. He enjoyed motorcycle enduro racing, snowmobiling, country drives, traveling with his family, watching old westerns, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and activities and teaching them about farming.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Rhonda Lolling of Pecatonica; sons, Corbin (Rachael) Lolling of Pecatonica, Casey (Deidre Peterson) Lolling of Pecatonica; daughter, Cara (Dan) Hodgdon of Winnebago; grandchildren, Waylon Hanke, Rigley Lolling, Daniel Hodgdon III, Nolan Hodgdon, Matthew Cox; father, Jack Lolling of Mt. Morris, brothers, Monty (Sandy) Lolling of Lake Carroll, Mark Lolling of Loves Park; sister Diane (Virgil) Davit of Pecatonica; several nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family.
