Obituary for Gay L. Deen

German Valley - Gay L. Deen, 84, of German Valley, died Thursday morning, July 16, 2009, in her home, after a lengthy illness. Born April 28, 1925, in Peach Orchard, Ark., the daughter of Silas and Martha (Clayton) Maple. Gay married Henry Cleo Deen on June 28, 1946, in Arkansas. They moved to the Leaf River - German Valley area in 1954. She was a press operator at Kyser Westran, in Byron, over 20 years, retiring in 1989. Gay loved dancing, gardening, fishing, garage saling, and raising her chickens and turkeys.

Gay is lovingly survived by her sons, Billy (Cheryl) Deen of Forreston and Silas (Barbara) Deen of Adeline; daughters, Margaret Strite of Leaf River, Sandra (Phil) Bennett, of Norris City, and Betty (Steve) Armbruster of German Valley; twelve grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, husband, Henry Deen on February 6, 1999, five brothers; five sisters; and a grandson.

Funeral Information

Service is at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 20, 2009, in Genandt Funeral Home, 145 Church St., German Valley, with visitation from 9:30 a.m. until service time; the Rev. Diane Jochum, chaplain of FHN Hospice, in Freeport, will officiate. Burial in Lightsville Cemetery in Leaf River.
