Obituary for George B. Williams

Byron - George B. Williams, 87, of Byron, died Monday afternoon, September 22, 2008, in Pinecrest Manor, in Mount Morris, after a short illness. Born March 22, 1921, in Freeport, the son of Alfred J. and Klasina (Klinger) Williams. George married Marion M. Winche on October 25, 1943, in the parish of Christian Church, in Leaf River. He lived his entire life in Freeport, German Valley, and Egan, and upon retiring from farming, moved to Byron in 1969. George worked part-time for the Byron parks and full-time at Ogle County Highway Department, retiring in 1986. He was a member of Silver Creek Reformed Church, in German Valley, and then after his marriage joined North Grove Christian Church of Egan, where he served as a deacon and superintendent. George was also a member of Byron Area Senior Citizens and served as president.

George is lovingly survived by his three daughters, Jean (Carl) Stocker of Marinette, Wis., Doris (Greg Lading) Holby of Mt. Morris and Delores (Deane) Rowland of Oregon; one son, Roger (Dar Kenney) Williams of Leaf River; twelve grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Robert (Donna) Williams of Leaf River; sister, Jennie Lamm of Monroe, Wis.; brothers-in-law, Lloyd Bolen of Oregon and Robert (Helen) Winche of Leaf River; and sisters-in-law, Gloria Williams of Pecatonica, Sally Williams of Rockford and Lois (Jearl) Cook of Rockford.

He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Marion Williams on July 2, 2008; four brothers and five sisters.

Funeral Information

Service is at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 25, 2008, in North Grove Christian Church, 11702 N. Mt. Morris Road, in Leaf River, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until service time; the Rev. Carlton K. Easley will officiate. Burial in North Grove Christian Cemetery, in Leaf River.
