Beloved Husband, Dad & Grandpa
Winnebago - George DeShaw, 75, of Winnebago, died Friday, July 17, 2009, in his home, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born February 9, 1934, in Effie, Minn., the son of Frank and Irene (Waldron) DeShaw. George married Nancy Hlinak on October 3, 1953, in Kewaunee, Wis. He was a professional musician and toolmaker in the manufacturing industry. George enjoyed gardening, flea-markets, and wandering the less traveled roads. He was an accomplished guitarist, and a well-read man with an interest in the classics. George loved spending time with his extended family.
He is lovingly survived and dearly missed by his wife, Nancy DeShaw of Winnebago; daughters, Suzanne (John) Scott and Jeannette (Stephen) Haight; granddaughter, Pamela (Dax) McDonald; and stepgrandson Brandon Haight; all of Rockford; brothers, Ronald (Evelyn) DeShaw of Finland, Minn. and Loren (Carol) DeShaw of Effie; sister, Ruth Richmond of Seattle, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, John, Neil, Sonny, and Larry DeShaw; one infant brother; and sister, Tootsie Skottegard.
His family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Sheryl and the VNA Hospice staff.
Funeral Information
Memorial visitation is at 4:00 to 6:00p.m., Tuesday, July 21, 2009, in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago. At George's request, cremation rites will be accorded.
