Winnebago - Gerald M. "Jerry" Norberg, 89, of Winnebago, died Monday, May 30, 2011, in his home, after a lengthy illness. Born on November 6, 1921, in Sumner, Nebr., the son of Ivar and Agnes (Stromberg) Norberg. Graduated in 1940, the last class of Rockford Central High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII. Jerry married Marian E. Anderson on January 14, 1944, in Rockford. He was employed 44 years by Amerock Corporation, first as a tool and die maker and later as senior design engineer, retiring in 1983. He was a past member of the Society of Die Cast Engineers and American Society of Engineers. Jerry was an avid reader and Green Bay Packer football fan. He cherished his Swedish heritage.
Jerry is lovingly survived by his wife, Marian; two sons, Dan (Marilyn) Norberg of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., and Bob (Bonnie) Norberg of Wausau, Wis.; daughter and care-giver for many years, Sally Ann Haynes of Winnebago; eight grandchildren, Michael, Trisha, Chad, Eric, Camie, Marcy, Erin and Christopher; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and Toby and Timmy, his favorite dogs.
He was predeceased by his parents; infant son; granddaughter, Bobbi Jo Haynes; and brother, Ansel (Alice) Norberg.
Funeral Information
Service is at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 2, 2011, in First Evangelical Free Church, 2223 N. Mulford Road, Rockford, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until service time; Pastor Chuck Rife will officiate. Burial in Twelve Mile Grove Cemetery, Pecatonica.
