Obituary for Glen Swartz

Glen “Smooth” Swartz, 84, of Winnebago, died Sunday, September 11, 2022, at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born April 29, 1938 in Rockford, the son of Harry Ivan and Norma Christina (Mund) Swartz . He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving from June 14, 1955 to October 30, 1961. Glen married Geraldine “Geri” Frances Larson on March 29, 1962 in Costa Mesa, Ca.


Glen worked in auto body shop repair. He was an avid fisherman, competing in weekend Bass fishing competitions, raced stock cars at the Freeport Raceway and enjoyed hunting. He was a member of the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society, an avid lifelong Green Bay Packer fan and a fan of NASCAR stock car racing driver, Jeff Gordon. Glen was devoted in spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.


Glen is survived by his wife of 60 years, Geri Swartz of Winnebago; children, Tony (Jennie) Swartz, Valerie Lewis, Kevin (Stacy) Swartz; grandchildren, Nicholas (Celina) Swartz, Brandon Swartz, Lilly Swartz, James Lewis; great-grandchildren, Everly Swartz, Walker Swartz; sister, JoAn (Fred) Johnson; sister-in-law, Roberta Swartz; several nephews and nieces.


Glen is predeceased by a brother Robert Swartz.


A celebration of Glen’s life will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturday, November 5, 2022 at the Burritt Township Hall, 8284 Trask Bridge Rd., Rockford.


Cremation rites accorded. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established.
