Obituary for Grace A. Whitney
Seward - Grace A. Whitney, 87, of Seward, died Saturday, July 21, 2012, in Rockford Memorial Hospital, after a short illness. Born December 1, 1924, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Ernest and Eva (Einsele) Huene. Grace married Richard Desmond Whitney on January 27, 1945, in St. Patrick Catholic Church, Rockford. Together they farmed in the Seward area. Grace worked in the office at Amerock for many years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of the American Legion in Byron, and a longtime volunteer for St. Patrick's Clothes Closet. Grace enjoyed reading and sewing, and was known for her cooking, baking, and canning talents, having shared her skills with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed all the family gatherings.

Grace is lovingly survived by her daughters, Gloria (Stephen) Ricketts of Port Hadlock, Wash., and Kathryn (Dale) Bowen of Seward; sons, Richard "Rick" (Amy Crenshaw) and Peter (JoAnn) Whitney, both of Seward; grandchildren, Jennifer Lopeman, David Ricketts, Zachary and Margaret Bowen, Jonathon and Nicholas Whitney, Michael Meier, Jennifer Weydert and Kevin Meier; five great-grandchildren; brothers, William "Bill" and John "Jack" Huene; sister, Patricia Schopf; dear niece, Lois Johnson and numerous other nieces and nephews; and special friends, Arlene and Russell Gentry. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Richard Whitney on November 23, 2001; infant children, Mary Grace and Andrew Paul Whitney; brothers, Ernest "Bud" and Joseph "Buster" Huene; and sisters, Dorothy Huene, Eva Doty, and Marie Berry.

Funeral Information

Service is at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 28, 2012, in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago, with the Rev. Dale Bowen officiating. Burial in Twelve Mile Grove Cemetery, Pecatonica. Visitation 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, July 27, 2012, in the funeral home.
