Loving and Caring Husband, Father and Grandfather
Winnebago - Gustav M. Hermeling, 92, of Winnebago, died Wednesday, June 3, 2015, in SwedishAmerican Hospital, Rockford, following a short illness. Born February 22, 1923, in Clinton County, the son of Walter and Clara (Brink) Hermeling. Gus married Doris Christen on January 20, 1952, in Winnebago United Methodist Church. He farmed for many years. In addition, he worked for the State of Illinois Highway Department and then at the Winnebago High School as a custodian, retiring in 1994. Gus enjoyed gardening, caring for the animals, and helping his children and grandchildren show their animals in 4-H.
Gus is lovingly survived by his wife, Doris; children, Martin Hermeling, Terry Hermeling, and Sandy Steele; grandchildren, Daniel and Stacie Hermeling; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his parents, son-in-law, Russell Steele II; brothers, Wally, Rudy, Elmer and Arthur Hermeling; and sister, Anna Brinkmann.

Service at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2015, in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 600 N. Horsman, Rockford, with the Rev. Frank Ciprys officiating. Burial in North Burritt Cemetery, Winnebago. Visitation 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, June 5, 2015, in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago.
