
Obituary for Harlan Eugene Boeke
Winnebago – Harlan Eugene Boeke, 94, of Winnebago, went to be with the Lord and his beloved wife Mary, on Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at Independence Village in Rockford. Born August 12, 1923 in Wessington, SD, the son of Charles Benjamin and Margaret Leona (Patton) Boeke. Graduated from Clear Lake High School in South Dakota in 1941. Harlan married the love of his life, whom he knew since age 15, Mary Louise Jones on August 28, 1943 at Middle Creek Presbyterian Church near Winnebago. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving from April 10, 1943 to December 21, 1945 on the ship USS YO-77 in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater in the Pacific Ocean. Harlan worked at Barber Coleman, Rockford Lumber and Fuel, I. C. Webb and retired from Woodward Governor as an expeditor. He was a 70 plus year member, trustee, treasurer of the memorial committee and a member in the Mariners group at Middle Creek Presbyterian Church. He served on the Winnebago Community Unit School District 323 school board. Harlan was a true carpenter at heart and built the four homes he and Mary lived in, loved woodworking and gardening. He always loved spending time with his grandchildren and was an avid attendee at his children’s and grandchildren’s activities. Harlan enjoyed his Vets Roll trip to Washington, D.C. in 2010.

Thank you also, to Mercy Health at Home Hospice for their wonderful care over the last two months. A special thank you to his friend from the Winnebago neighborhood, Brian Peterson, who was so faithful in visiting Harlan at Independence Village.
Harlan is survived by his children, Lynn (Mary) Boeke of Chesterton, IN, Lloyd (Joie) Boeke of New Baden, Wendy (Joseph) Newman of Rockford; grandchildren, Tess (Chuck) Boland of River Forest, Aaron Boeke of Columbus, OH, Tammy (Chris) Boyer of New Baden, Stephanie Newman of Rockford, Samantha Newman of Rochester, MN; great-grandchildren, Mathew and Hailey Boland of River Forest, Benjamin, Nathaniel, Andrew, Rebekah and Josiah Boyer of New Baden, Jonathan, Victoria and Emma Grace Owens of Belleville; brother-in-law, Bill Jones of Byron.
Harlan is predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Mary Boeke; granddaughter, Sherry Owens; brothers, Loal Boeke, Howard Boeke, Carl Boeke, Duane Boeke; sister, Wilma Boeke.
Funeral service 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2018, with a visitation starting at 10:00 a.m., at Middle Creek Presbyterian Church, 12473 Montague Rd., Winnebago with Rev. Dr. Anita Stuart-Steva officiating. Interment at Middle Creek Cemetery near Winnebago. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established. Arrangements by Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N.
