Pecatonica - Harm "Barney" F. Viel, 83, of Pecatonica, died Thursday afternoon, April 19, 2007, in Rockford Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born July 19, 1923, in German Valley, the son of Henry and Jennie (Friemuth) Viel. He attended school in Leaf River. Harm married Lois A. Winche on July 19, 1944, in Pecatonica. Together, they farmed in German Valley, Ridott, Pecatonica, Davis and Seward areas for many years. In addition, Harm was employed at Seward Screw Products, Inc. Upon retiring from farming, he was employed by Agro Feed and Meridian True Value, both in Rockford. Harm was a lifelong member of German Valley United Methodist Church. An avid fisherman, he also enjoyed gardening and mowing his lawn.
Harm is lovingly survived by his children, Patricia (Walter) Siemens, Jr. of Freeport, Gene A. (Ann) Viel of Bloomington, Ind., Marlene (Russell) Siemens of Pecatonica, Gary L. (Aleasa) Viel of Winnebago, Norman (Kelly) Viel of Rock City and Linda (Craig) Clausen of Rockford; grandchildren, Steven, Marcy (Jeff Russell) and Kevin Siemens, Melanie (Jack) Bernsmeier, Michael and Christopher Viel, Crystal (Kevin) Brauer, Laurie (Sheldon) Speers, Justin (Stephanie) Siemens, Adam (Rachel) Viel, Kelly Scott Viel, Dawn (Kevin) Hale, Traci (Matt) Hartsock, Amy, Melissa, Samantha, Heather, Abigail and Joshua Viel and Ryan and Jeremy Clausen; seventeen great-grandchildren; brothers, Fred "Fritz" (Katy) Viel of German Valley and Henry (Janice) Viel of Pecatonica; sister, Grace (Kenneth) Klenz of Freeport; sister-in-law, Maude Viel of Pecatonica and numerous nieces and nephews.
Harm was predeceased by his wife, Lois A. Viel on November 16, 1992; brothers, Albert and George Viel and sister, Kay (Ray) Vautsmeier.

Service is at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 24, 2007, in German Valley United Methodist Church, 7 Main St., German Valley, with the Rev. Rick Neblock officiating. Burial in Christian Reformed Cemetery, in German Valley. Visitation 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, April 23, 2007, in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago.
