BURK

Seward - Harold "Burk" W. Burkhart, 85, of Seward, died Friday morning, September 3, 2010, in Rockford Memorial Hospital, after a sudden illness. Born August 9, 1925, in Winnebago, the son of Earl F. and Gertrude L. (Greenfield) Burkhart. Attended rural country schools. Harold married Josephine "Sis" J. Viel on January 14, 1948, in Leaf River. In his early years, he was a mechanic for Ford and then Dorhn Transfer, and then farmed and operated his own trucking firm, known as Burk's Custom Farming Trucking, retiring in 1993. Harold was a member of the Winnebago County Farm Bureau, Winnebago County Fair Association for over 25 years and Winnebago County Tractor Pull for over 20 years. He dearly loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, farming, motorcycling, snowmobiling, and the love of his life, tractor pulling, with "Git R Done" and "Industrial Strength".

Harold is lovingly survived by his wife of 62 years, Sis Burkhart; children, Bev (Bryan) Allen, Jacki (Mike) Cunningham, and Scott (Lois) Burkhart, all of Seward; grandchildren, Angi Allen, Carmen (Mike) Shank, Nathan (Danielle) Allen, Ashley Allen (fianc, Brennan Spielman), Heather (Nathan) Palmer, Nicholus Cunningham (his special friend, Adriane Themas), and Morgan and Brennan Burkhart; great-grandchildren, Dawson, Whitney and Dillon Shank, Burkal Allen, and Madalyn, Katlyn, and Kalley Palmer; brother, Arthur (Shirley) Burkhart of Winnebago; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; infant brother, Kenneth Burkhart; brother, Lester (Elsie) Burkhart; nephews, Randy and Allan Burkhart; great-nephew Kyle Lauterbach; and great-niece, Renee Ackerman.

Funeral Information

Service is at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 8, 2010, in Seward Congregational Church, with the Rev. Ronald C. Farb officiating. Burial in Twelve Mile Grove Cemetery, Pecatonica. Visitation 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 7, 2010, in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago.
