Winnebago - Howard M. Boyer, 85, formerly of Winnebago, died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011 in Indianapolis, Ind. Born July 21, 1926, in Seward Township, the son of Earl and Merle (Patrick) Boyer. Graduated from Pecatonica High School in 1944. He served in the United States Army during WWII from Nov. 26, 1945 to April 29, 1947. Howard married Genevieve I. "Gen" Vogel in Rockford on May 27, 1950. They lived 40 years in Winnebago. He was employed by National Lock for 35 years as a night plant manager until his retirement in 1986. Howard enjoyed fishing and gardening. His family meant everything to him and they will miss him greatly. Howard is lovingly survived by son, Dennis (Pamela) Boyer of Rockford; daughters, Diane Boyer and Danette (Robert) Siertle, of Indianapolis, Ind.; grandchildren, Marissa (Erik) Draney of Peoria, Krista Boyer (Myles Scott) of Rockford, Sarah and Joseph Siertle of Indianapolis, Ind.; several nephews and nieces. Predeceased by his wife, Gen Boyer, who died on October 11, 2000; two brothers; three sisters.
Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, in St. Mary's Catholic Church, 126 W. Fifth St., Pecatonica, with the Rev. Monsignor Robert Sweeney officiating. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Pecatonica. Visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1 in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago.
