Obituary for James L. McCarren
Rockford - James "Jim" Lawrence McCarren, 75, of Rockford, died Wednesday, June 3, 2015, in his home, from brain cancer and Alzheimer's. Born November 22, 1939, in Rockford, the son of Lawrence and Elsie (Eksten) McCarren. Graduated from Winnebago High School in 1957. Served in the U.S. Air Force in the early 1960s. Jim married Jo Pipitone on June 15, 1984, in Rockford. He was a machinist at Amerock for 20 years, retiring in 2001. Jim was an active member of St. Anthony of Padua, Rockford, and was a member of the EAA Ultralight Chapter 18. He built his own ultralight (Pterodactyl) in Jo's kitchen. Jim enjoyed following NASCAR and was a Jimmy Johnson fan. He loved spending his retirement years in Phoenix, Ariz.
Jim is lovingly survived by his wife, Jo; sons, Michael and Dave, both of Phoenix; and granddoggies, Jake and Nikki. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Gerald McCarren.
Jim's family wishes to thank Heartland Hospice, Rockford, and Hospice of Arizona for their loving care and support.
Jim has his wings and can fly again.

Service at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 8, 2015, in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1010 Ferguson St., Rockford, with the Rev. Edmond Des Forges officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded. Visitation 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, June 7, 2015, in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago.
