
Obituary for Janet Marie Ross
German Valley - Janet Marie Ross, 89, of German Valley, died Sunday, December 25, 2005, in her home. Born in Rock Falls on July 9, 1916, the daughter of Harry and Helen (Rife) Noble. They moved to Orangeville in 1921, where she attended school, graduating in 1934. She corresponded for the Journal Standard, was editor of the Orangeville Courier, a telephone operator in Orangeville and Freeport, and then a timekeeper for Burgess Battery. Janet married William M. Ross on October 30, 1942, in the Orangeville United Methodist Church. Together they farmed in German Valley until William's retirement in December, 1966. She was a member of German Valley United Methodist Church, serving as its financial secretary for 45 years since 1954, and was a member of the Stephenson County Home Extension. Janet, together with her husband, enjoyed traveling, golfing and bowling. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting, especially afghans.
Janet is lovingly survived by her daughter, Carolyn Sue (Michael) Haughey of Tama, Iowa, grandsons, Adam (Jill) Haughey of Buenos Aires, Argentina and Aaron (Lesa) Haughey of Tama, great-granddaughters, Kara, Kirsten and Carissa Haughey of Buenos Aires and Brycelyn and Morgan Haughey of Tama, brother, Richard (Ruth) Noble of Freeport, sisters, Jean (Charles) Stocker of Freeport and Betty (Richard) Rusk of Chula Vista, Calif., and several nieces and nephews.
Janet was predeceased by her parents, husband, William M. Ross on June 20, 1993, and brothers, Jack and Robert Noble.

Service is at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2005, in German Valley United Methodist Church, 7 Main Street, German Valley, with the Rev. Rick Neblock officiating. Burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, in Freeport. Visitation 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2005, in Genandt Funeral Home, 145 Church St., German Valley.
