Byron - Jeremy B. "Jerry" Jewell, 75, of Byron, died Monday night, May 10, 2010, in SwedishAmerican Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, after a short illness. Born May 10, 1935, in Oshkosh, Wis., the son of Phillip and Sarabell (Beardmore) Jewell. Graduated from North Shore Country Day High School, Evanston, in 1953, and Denison College, Granville Ohio in 1958. While in college, was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Served in the U.S. Army for two years. Jerry married Judy Getts on July 2, 1983, in Byron. He was a salesman at Lunde Truck Sales for over 25 years, retiring in 1997 and owned the Byron Boat Basin for several years. In addition, he was a member and past president of the Rockford Breakfast Lions Club. Jerry enjoyed wintering in Arizona, boating on the Mississippi, playing backgammon, organizing social events, cocktailing with friends, and dearly loved spending time with his family and mentoring his grandchildren and his foreign exchange student, Lars Sanne, of Sweden.
Jerry is lovingly survived by his wife, Judy Jewell of Byron; daughters, Sarah (Jay) Frank of Milwaukee, Linda (Keith) Spence of Orlando, Fla., Cathie Getts and Jackie (Jerry) Dietrich, both of Byron and Robin (Charlie) Willsey of Tulsa, Okla.; grandchildren, Yitzy, Joshua, Noah, Elisheva and Asher Frank, Keely, Evan and Lindsey Spence, Spc. Adam Adolph US Army, Julia Adolph, and Ryan Dietrich; great-grandson Yeshaya Frank; sister Sarah (Wayne) Walker of Saratoga, Calif.; and a niece, Jennifer and nephew, Mathew. He was predeceased by his parents.
Funeral Information
Service is at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, May 16, 2010, in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago, with visitation from 11:00 a.m. until service time; the Rev. Randy Snyder, pastor of First Baptist Church, Byron, will officiate. At Jerry's request, cremation rites will be accorded.
