
Obituary for Jerry Lee King
Byron - Jerry Lee King, 65, of Byron, died peacefully in his sleep, Sunday afternoon, February 18, 2007, in his home. Born November 13, 1941, in Dixon, the son of Robert L. and Nadine (Biggart) King. Graduated from Byron High School in 1959 and served as president of his senior class. He met Kay Karlson, the love of his life, while attending Illinois Wesleyan University. They were married in 1961, in Bloomington, and have resided in Byron most of their married life. Jerry worked at Galger Engineering, in Rockford, for 42 years. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Blackhawk Fire Department, a First Responder and EMT. Jerry enjoyed reading, gardening, caring for wildlife and playing with his grandchildren. He loved country living and raising and caring for cattle. Jerry was also an avid fan of the Chicago Bears.
Jerry is lovingly survived by his wife, Kay King; son, Jon (Nimfa) King; daughter, Rebeccah "Cricket" King; grandchildren, Angelika and Alexander King; father, Robert (M. Jean Wagner) King; brother, Denny (Kay) King, all of Byron; nephews, Jared (Kristin Filkowski) King of Chicago and Jason (Lisa) King of Byron; great-niece and great-nephew, twins, Haylee and Hunter King, of Byron and long-time friend,Smokey Nelson of Mount Morris.
Jerry was predeceased by his mother, Nadine King on December 30, 2002.
Funeral Information
At Jerry's request, cremation rites were accorded and there will be no service.
