Obituary for Joe C. Lutz
~~Byron Leonard Joe Claude Lutz, 87, of Byron was called home by the Lord on Monday, August 29, 2016 following complications from a fall at home. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Rockford Memorial Hospital. The world lost a devoted husband, loving father, caring grandfather and proud great-grandfather. He was born on February 23, 1929 in DeKalb, IL the son of Claude P. and Esther S. White Lutz. Graduated from DeKalb high school in 1946 and attended two years at Northern Illinois University where he studied mechanical engineering until returning home to the farm. Joe married Joyce Elaine Cherwin on November 3, 1951 in Aurora, IL. They spent almost 65 years together daily raising their family with love, patience and generosity. His love of the land and dedication to hard work led him in his lifelong pursuit in farming which began in Waterman, IL and continued on for the past 56 years on the family farm in Byron. He was a simple and down to earth man who loved his family, pets and home. He stood for honesty, respect and enjoyed working with his hands. Once he retired he enjoyed a good auction outbidding others, a day at Chana Sale Barn searching through treasures, meeting every month for breakfast in DeKalb with his fellow 1946 classmates or sitting back and listening to Molly B or Jolly Joe Polka music. He thanked God daily for his good long life with mom.
The family thanks the staff at Rockford Memorial Hospital ICU, Unit A3 Floor, the Palliative Care Team and the Byron Ambulance who lovingly cared for Joe and supported his family.
Joe was loved deeply and will be missed much by his loving wife, Joyce E. Lutz of Byron; daughter, Deborah A. Lutz of California; son Richard Dick A. Lutz of Byron; granddaughter, Amber (Brian) Jasper of Byron; greatgrandchildren, Andrew, Emma, Braden and Brians children Faith, James and Jeannie.
Predeceased by both parents and daughter Karen L. Lutz on February 21, 2012.
Funeral Information
~~Cremation rites accorded with a private family memorial service held at a later date. The Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago has assisted the family.
