Obituary for Joyce Seyler
Joyce Seyler, 91, of Winnebago, died Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Pinecrest Terrace in Mt. Morris. She was born October 19, 1930 in Mendota, the daughter of Allen Edward and Mattie May (Stauffer) Straley. She graduated from Winnebago High School in 1948. Joyce married Charles Ray Seyler on June 18, 1949 at the Lighthouse United Methodist Church near Oregon.
She worked as a secretary, retiring from Joseph Behr & Sons in 1988 and was a member of the Monday Niters Club. Joyce was a quiet, kindhearted person who valued family and friends, the simple life, and all things old. She enjoyed family vacations, steamboatin’ on the Mississippi River, weekends at the Straley family cottage on Lake Waubesa, auctions and estate sales, antique furniture and glassware, linens and needlework, especially cross-stitch. Her kitchen was lovingly referred to as the Goodling Street Coffee Shoppe—the pot was always on, and there were fresh baked cookies in the cookie jar.
Special thanks to caregiver Galina Kazmerchuk, Pinecrest Terrace in Mt. Morris, KSB Hospital in Dixon, and Serenity Hospice & Home in Oregon.
Joyce is survived by her son, Gregg (Deb) Seyler of Rockford; sisters-in-law, Alta Straley of Winnebago, Janice Seyler of Winnebago; several nephews and nieces; special friends, Cheri and Bob Gilmour.
Joyce is predeceased by her husband Chuck Seyler; brothers, Earl Straley, Dale Straley, Vernon Straley; sisters, Wilda Johnson, Lois Myers; nephews, Steve Straley, Randy Myers, Gary Straley; special friend, Wanda Foster.
Funeral service 11:00 a.m., with a visitation starting at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, April 30, 2022, at Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago with Pastor Donald Plock of the Winnebago United Methodist Church officiating.
