Obituary for Lenore E. Abbas
Freeport - Lenore E. Abbas, 90, of Freeport, died Wednesday morning, June 23, 2010, in Pinecrest Manor, Mount Morris. She was born on November 19, 1919, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of Thomas "Bert" and Tannetje (Hoogerland) Medlyn. She graduated from Norwood High School, Norwood, Ohio. Lenore married the Rev. Cornelius Abbas on January 22, 1947, in Christian Reformed Church of Cincinnati. They moved to German Valley in 1949, where Cornelius served the Christian Reformed Church. Lenore graduated from Highland Community College, obtaining her LPN, working first at Freeport Memorial Hospital and then at St. Francis Home for Exceptional Children, Freeport, until she retired. She was very active with the Christian Reformed Church, teaching Sunday school, Bible school and leading the Women's Society.
Lenore is lovingly survived by her sons, Daniel (Betti) Abbas of Webster, NY and David (Judy) Abbas of Smithville, Ontario, Canada; daughters, Kay (Craig) Greenfield of German Valley and Karen Abbas of Devon, PA.; grandchildren, Erika (Matt) Hanna of Boston, MA, and Geoffrey (Kristen) Abbas of Brooklyn, NY, Kelly and Joel Abbas of Smithville, Jeanna Abbas of Grand Rapids, MI, and Anita and Thomas Greenfield of German Valley; great-grandsons, Benjamin and Gideon Abbas of Brooklyn; and many nieces and nephews.
Lenore was predeceased by her husband, the Rev. Cornelius Abbas; son, Paul Abbas; and sister, Elizabeth Otis.

Service is at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 29, 2010, in Christian Reformed Church, German Valley, with the Rev. Peter DeJong, former pastor of Christian Reformed Church, officiating. Burial in Christian Reformed Cemetery, German Valley. Visitation 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 28, 2010, in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago.
