Obituary for Lewis J. Mauk
Burritt - Lewis J. Mauk, 79, of Burritt, died Saturday, August 24, 2013, in his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born December 19, 1933, at home in Rockford, the son of David V. and M. Helene (McKillip) Mauk. Lewie married Kathryn "Kay" Kappenman on August 13, 1954. Beginning in his teens, he worked as an auto-body repairman. Over the next 60 years, Lewie worked in many of the major auto dealership shops in Rockford, finally retiring in 2006. He restored a 1929 Chevrolet fire engine and enjoyed driving it in many local parades. Lewie instilled in his family a strong work ethic as well as the importance of family, supporting the decisions we made along the way.

Lewie is lovingly survived by his wife, Kay; daughters, Lorri (William) Schultz of Broken Arrow, Okla. and Kimberly (Don) Sughroue of Rockton; grandchildren, Geoffrey, Jameson and Megan; great-grandsons, Hayden and Gabriel; sisters, Marjorie (Charles) Owens, Joan Gilbert, and Anna Cooling; brother, Robert (Kay) Mauk; sister-in-law, Charlotte Mauk; brother-in-law, Ben DeGutis; special niece and nephew, Linda and Norm King and great-nephews, Craig DeGutis and Ryan DeGutis, who provided love, care and support; care-giver, Amy Cushing, who was always kind and shared Lewie's love of animals; neighbor and friend, Jim Sullivan; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, and brother, David J. Mauk.
