Beloved Mother, Grandmother & Great-grandmother

Roscoe - Margaret D. Tanner, 92, formerly of Winnebago, died Tuesday afternoon, August 5, 2008, in her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born December 16, 1915 in Poplar Grove, the daughter of Floyd and Clarabelle (Barney) Dawson. She graduated from Belvidere High School and Northern Illinois University. Margaret married Otis L. Tanner on October 15, 1938, in the Dawson home in Poplar Grove. She was a teacher, first employed at Quail Trap one-room school, then in the Winnebago and Rockford School Districts. Margaret was a member of the Roscoe United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, White Shrine, Winnebago Women's Club, and Winnebago's 500 Card Club. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joys of her life.

Margaret is lovingly survived by her two sons, David (Carol) Tanner and Jonathan (Adele) Tanner, both of Roscoe; five grandchildren, Donna (Duane) Busjahn of Rockford, John Tanner of South Beloit, Tracey Smith, Jon Paul Tanner and Toby Tanner, all of Roscoe; seven great-grandchildren, Richard, Catherine Margaret, Michael, Chase, Morgan, Colin and Erin; several nieces and nephews; and dear friend, Edna Ballinger of Rockford.

She was predeceased by her husband, Otis L. Tanner, on November 23, 1995; brother, Harold "Pat" Dawson and sisters, Lucille Pollnow and Ruth Buttgeon.

Margaret's family would like to thank Roscoe United Methodist Church's pastors and congregation, the staff at Wesley Willows and Northern Illinois Hospice for their spiritual care and support.

Funeral Information

Service is 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 11, 2008, in Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago, with the Rev. Brian J. Kenney, chaplain of Wesley Willows, officiating. Burial in Winnebago Cemetery. Visitation 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, August 10, 2008, in the funeral home, followed by Eastern Star Rites at 5:00 p.m.
