Obituary for Marjorie Mae (Peterson) Johnson

Marjorie Mae (Peterson) Johnson, 103, of Rockford, passed into eternal rest, Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Wesley Willows in Rockford. Born October 1, 1919 near Westfield Corners of Winnebago, the daughter of Edwin John and Edith Elizabeth (Weitkamper) Glawe. She graduated from Pecatonica High School in 1936 and attended Brown’s Business College in Rockford. Marjorie married Berthold “Bert” Ernest Peterson, of Arpin, WI in Dubuque, Iowa on October 19, 1940. He died on June 1, 1986. They farmed in the Winnebago area and moved to Rockford in 1954.


Marjorie was employed as a sales clerk for Ingrassia Ace Hardware in Rockford and then LaBob’s Luggage at the CherryVale Mall. She was a baptized and a confirmed member of St. John Lutheran Church in Pecatonica and later transferred her membership to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rockford where she was a member of the Ladies Guild. She enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens saying it was relaxing, loved animals and feeding birds. Marjorie most enjoyed her many friends and relatives.


Marjorie married Henry “Hank” John Johnson on May 15, 2004 in the chapel at Midway Village in Rockford. She enjoyed traveling and wintering in Texas with Hank. Hank died on March 19, 2009.


Marjorie is lovingly survived by her step-son, Scott (Debbie) Johnson; step-daughter-in-law, Judy (Rod) Penuel; several cousins; good friend, Gail (Gene) Harris.


Funeral service 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 1, 2023, Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago with Reverend Frank Ciprys officiating. Interment at Willwood Burial Park in Rockford.
