
Mary Alice Cross, 81, of Winnebago, died Sunday, September 25, 2022, at her home with her loving family by her side. She was born December 1, 1940 in Rockford, the daughter of Robert Champlin and Alice Matilda (Paden) McCulloch. She graduated from West High School in 1958. Mary married William “Bill” J. Cross Jr. on June 17, 1961, in the Gordon Chapel at Second Congregational Church in Rockford.
Mary worked on the family farm with her husband Bill. She is a member of Second Congregational Church in Rockford, Winnebago County Farm Bureau, Prairie Farms CO-OP, Illinois Holstein Association and Centerville Community Club. She enjoyed meeting with her classmates for lunch aka “the older than dirt group”, going out to eat at every opportunity and attending all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events.
On September 14 of this year Mary celebrated her twenty one year anniversary of receiving a liver transplant at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.

Mary is survived by her children, Dennis (Karin) Cross of Winnebago, Craig (Darcy) Cross of Winnebago, Corinne (Jim) Rakuc of Caledonia; grandchildren, Chas (Taylor) Cross, Amy (Aaron) Palmer, Robert Cross, Jessica (Ryan) Maloney, Cally (Robert) McNeeley, James Rakuc, Ashley Rakuc; great-grandchildren, Oaklyn Cross, Knox Cross, Addilyn Palmer, Evelynn Cross, Samantha Maloney, Willow Maloney, Jacob Rakuc; sister-in-law, Nancy (Paul) Neakrase; nephew, Lynn (Jennifer) Neakrase; great-nephew, Stephen Neakrase; great-niece, Alexandra Neakrase.
She is predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Bill Cross; brother, John McCulloch; sister, Jane McCulloch.
Funeral service 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 3, 2022, at Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago with Reverend Lisa Lopez-Meyer pastor of First Presbyterian Church Of Winnebago officiating.
Visitation 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, October 2, 2022, at the funeral home.
Interment at Winnebago Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established for the Win-Bur-Sew Fire Department.
