She was born December 8, 1924 in Stratford, Pine Creek Township, Ogle County the daughter of Russell Daniel and Sophia Johanna (Snapp) Grove. She graduated from Leaf River High School in 1942. She had many jobs including upholstery in her home, waitressing for many years, catering, and cooking for the Winnebago Community School District 323 and Culvers in Winnebago. She was an amazing cook and had many requests for her famous potato salad and pies.

Mary Jane loved her card clubs, traveling, country music especially George Strait, the GlenCoe Behn Clydesdale horses and bowling in her earlier years. She very much enjoyed her special visits from John and Pat Matlock. Most of all she loved family time especially with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended families and her cat George. Mary Jane’s smile and eyes would light up the room.
