Obituary for Mary Laurie (Wright) Briggs
Mary Laurie (Wright) Briggs, 67, of German Valley, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at her home with her husband Steve by her side. She was born September 24, 1953 in Dixon, IL, the daughter of Robert Lewis and Edith Lucille (Volz) Wright. She was raised by her uncle and aunt, Harold and Anna Louise Wright. She graduated from Dixon High School in 1971. Mary married Steven Alan Briggs on July 10, 1976 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dixon.
Mary worked as a teacher’s aide and librarian for 26 years at the German Valley Grade School in the Forrestville Valley School District #221. She was a member of the German Valley United Methodist Church. She was a Girl Scouts leader, Kids Summer Reading Program coordinator and a St. Jude Bike-A-Thon coordinator. She enjoyed reading, horse racing, horse riding, traveling and county fairs.
Mary is survived by her husband of 45 years, Steve Briggs of German Valley; daughters, Laurie (Joe) Hicks of Trempealeau, WI, Stephanie (Josh) Feldman of Apopka, FL; grandchildren, Michael and Hailey Hicks; brother, Keith (Alice) Wright; sisters, Carol (Roland) Voelker, Millie Potter; several nephews, nieces and cousins.
Mary is predeceased by her brother, Robert Wright Jr.; sister, Janet McDowell.
There will be no public funeral service. Cremation rites accorded. In lieu of flowers memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or your local animal shelter.
